My Marrakesh Travel Guide

Last month, my boyfriend and I visited Marrakesh for the first time. We stayed four days - and I absolutely fell in love with the city!
Today, I wanted to share my Marrakesh travel guide, as I have a lot of tips to share for you to get the most out of your stay.
I hope you enjoy!

Where to stay
So, I always tend to book more budget-friendly accommodations to be able to spend more money on actual experiences and getting to see more locations. In Marrakesh we stayed in Airbnbs only. They are very affordable in the city and most of them are amazing! As far as location goes, you want to stay in The Medina, the oldtown of Marrakesh, for that true Moroccain experience and I would advise staying in the southern part of the oldtown, so that you are closer to all the places you want to see.
Hotels seemed to be quite affordable as well if you want to spend a little bit more, and most of them have a pool, which is really convenient!

When to go
Marrakesh has good weather all year around, it barely rains and the temperatures are mild, even in the winter. We visited in March and the temperatures where about 30 degress Celsius everyday! So, I can only imagine how hot it must get during the summer month, so maybe that is not the best time to travel to Marrakesh! I heard that spring and fall are the best seasons to visit. Also, I think that about four days are definitely enough to see the must-go places of the city and to even book a day trip to the mountains or the beach!

What to wear
Now, I am a little bit torn about that point. A friend of mine who went end of last year told me to only pack more modest clothing and that she did feel uncomfortable from time to time just walking around (granted she was traveling with another girlfriend). I have no problem adapting to another culture and believes of a country I've never visited, and Morocco is a Muslim country, so I only packed shirts that covered my shoulders and bottoms that wear at least knee-length. I did not feel uncomfortable once (keep in mind I was traveling with a man though), and I saw a lot of other tourist walking around with pretty much normale Western Europe summer attire. The Morrocains did not seem too concerned by that, so I guess it comes down to your own willingness to adapt to a culture and with whom you travel.

 Where to eat
That is simple: eat aaaalll the food!! Moroccain food is amazing and you definitely need to taste all the different dishes the restaurants carry on their menu. You need to try the traditional Berber dish Tajine as well as all the different starters and appetizers that are sooo flavorful and delicious - I promise you, you'll become addicted! Also, let me tell you, food in Marrakesh is very affordable! Café de France, Café Clock and Café Nomad (everything that starts with 'Café' in Marrakesh is basically a restaurants that serves everything, from breakfast to dinner, from desert to drinks, from meals to snacks...) are great adresses if you want to have more of a 'real' dining experience, meals are between €8 and €14 and in some of these restaurants you can even order alcohol, which alcohol is normally not allowed to consume in a public place in Moroco. However, I'd recommend trying out all of the tiny restaurants and market stalls that are lining the alleys of the Medina. A meal is about €3 or €4, it tastes just as amazing, the chefs are always up for a chat, and you get to sit and eat among the locals, all while watching the busy everyday life in Marrakesh! My favorites were the Patisseries, shops for amaaaaazing sweet baked goods as well as the juice stalls - try a freshly squeezed orange juice blended with milk, mhhhhh!

What to do
There is a ton of amazing places to see and visit in Marrakesh, and most of them you can actually walk to if you stay in the Medina! Most of the sights to visit have an entrance fee of 70 Moroccan dirham, which is just under €7. Here is a list of locations and activities to keep in mind:
  • Take all the photos!   Honestly, Marrakesh is easily the most photogenic city I have every been to - everywhere you turn there is a dreamy garden, a colorful doorway, a gorgeous tile floor,... you name it, Marrakesh has it! So if you are even remotely interested in taking pretty pictures for your blog, Insta or even for your own private photo gallery, take your camera and snap away!
  • Visit as many gardens as possible!  One of the things I found the most remarkable is Marrakesh's ability to create and mantain the MOST BEAUTIFUL GARDENS ON THIS PLANET! It is even more fascinating if you think about that this city is only a few hours north of the West Saharian desert! I am basically telling you to visit everything that contains the name 'Jardin' haha. My favorites were: 'The Secret Garden', Jardin Majorelle (also known as the 'Yves Saint Laurant garden' as it is home of the YSL museum), the parc around the Koutoubia Mosque.
  •   Visit mosques and palaces! There are a few mosques around the city, some of which non-Muslims are allowed to enter, some of which they are not. Even from the outside these buildings are just spectacular and so so beautiful. Another highlight are Marrakesh's palaces - and definitely amazing for one or two photos! We visited the Bahia palace, and this huge building with it's white tiles and colorful detailing, lays right in the heart of one of the busiest parts of Marrakesh! It's truly like a sanctuary in the city - as well as every Instagrammers dream!
  • Wander the alleys of the Medina! Getting literally lost in the oldtown of Marrakesh is an exciting experience and you will be bombarded with impressions, smells, and every aspect this city has to offer! But carry a phone with GPS with you, as you do not want to actually get lost haha! If you are on the hunt for some bargains or want to buy something as a souvenir, you are also in heaven here as there are hundreds of different stalls and little huts that offer everything you can imagine - be warned though, Morrocans are excellent sales people and WILL sell you everything haha!
Book a day trip! Marrakesh is starting point for many excursions you can do. You can for example go to the coast and visit places like Essaouira, which is a beautiful little city right at the beach or even go on a Sahara trip! We did not go on a desert trip, as heard that you should be booking at least the 3-day trip, even better the 5-day trip for it to be worth the long drive. Instead we opted for a one day guided excursion to the Atlas mountains, which was absolutely breath-taking. Make sure to compare prices though, as there are huge differences depending on the provider, the location your going to and the mood of the travel guide haha! We booked our excursion on Tripadvisor. We did not do a ton of walking on our trip, however there were some surprisingly steep hiking episodes on this trip, which definitely made for an adventure haha! We ended our hike in a traditional Berber village, where the people were super friendly and provided us with food and drinks and the views from up those high mountains was unbelievably!

Those were my few words that probably did not even do this amazing country and that oh so beautiful city justice! Still, I hope there were some helpful tips for you in there and of course, in case of any questions I did not cover here, please feel free to ask in the comments below!

Mothers Day Gift Guide

Mothers Day is right around the corner, in exactly TWO WEEKS to be precise - and if you are anything like me, you love to spoil your mom rotten on that day, yet you are a notorious last minute gift shopper.... #oopsies

But don't worry, I got you covered with this little last minute Mothers Day Gift Guide! All products are from Amazon, which I think is great for doing gift shopping for any holiday, and shipping is super fast - perfect for those of us, that like to shop for their gifts only a week (or a few days tbh) in advance haha!

You can click on the product names to be re-directed to the products page. Happy shopping!

I think these porcelain bowls are sooo pretty, I love a good white and blue detailing and they would fit great into my moms kitchen. I can also imagine these working great as little decorative trinkets to store small things like jewelry!

My mom loves to read, especially while on vacation or when spending lazy sunday afternoons in the sunny garden. I have been um-ming and ah-ing over whether to get her a Kindle for years now, and finally pulled the trigger and ordered her one. This one is the Bestseller and has amazing reviews - it's even water-proof, which I think is pretty amazing!

Giving a perfume as a gift is always a tricky one, so I'd only recommend doing that if you know your mom's preferences really well! My mom is obsessed with Dolce & Gabbana perfume and has been wearing The One for years. She recently switched to the newest D&G perfume, The Only One, and I like to stock her up on that perfume whenever I get the chance to do so :)

I swear on The Ordinary skincare and have been getting pretty much my whole family and friends jump on the bandwagon as well haha! I found this skincare set and let me tell you, it is an AMAZING value for the price! I personally own three of the five skincare pieces in here and could not recommend them more. I also like how this set is supposed to increase glow in your skin, which I think is something that would work universally for a lot of different women - because who doesn't like a dewy, healthy looking skin!

The re-usable coffee mug is perfect for the busy mom that's always on the go and it comes in a lot of different designs, which all look too cute! It is also made out of bamboo fiber (I know, crazy right??) which is a very sustainable material and very sturdy as well. I may or may not have ordered one for myself haha! :)

A scented candle always makes for a great gift and you can find some on every budget! This soy candle had great reviews and is huuuge, which I love, especially for giving gifts - it is supposed to be able to be burned for 80+ hours!

A themed cookbook is perfect for the mom that likes to try out new recipes! This Turkish Cuisine one sounds awesome, and I feel like cookbooks dedicated to specific types of food or countries is also great to get either in preparation for a trip your mom took or as a memory of a trip!

If your mom enjoys being extra cozy at home - and to be honest, who doesn't? - I found these amazingly soft slippers, which keep your feet extra warm during the colder season and come in super cute different colors as well, and this fluffy robe, that has raving reviews. They're also very reasonably priced!

That is my little gift guide for Mothers Day!
What are you giving your mom? :)

My Take On Spring Cleaning

Since spring season is well and truly upon us, a lot of people dive head first into some good ol' spring cleaning - including myself! And with all of this mariekondo-ing (will this actually be ending up as a word in the dictionary one day?) going on everywhere I look, I felt very inspired to begin my very own project Spring Clean 2k19! (lol!)

Now, I have to say, even though I am quite a tidy person and I looove a clean, fresh and organized home (who doesn't to be completely honest), I do not actually like the act of cleaning haha!
My friend says she finds cleaning her home quite therapeutic and does it as part of stress relieving - which is amazing! But not my cup of tea haha!

Still, I managed to adopt quite a few habits over the years that make cleaning not only (the tiiiiiniest bit) enjoyable for me, but also super effective! So here are my personal tips on how to take on a spring clean!

#1: Declutter
Now, this is the part that I actually reeeaally enjoy when it comes to deep cleaning my apartment - getting rid of aaall the clutter and things I don't need! I would say I am pretty good at letting go of things I don't need or want and I am pretty ruthless as well, so decluttering different areas of my home is usually the starting point of cleaning the whole thing top to bottom. You can get rid of unwanted stuff all while saving time not having to tidy up and organizing things you ultimately want to give away anyway. I honestly get a little bit of a kick out of very thorough decluttering - it's so freeing! Also, a freshly cleaned home feels even more amazing when you know there is not stuff hidden away everywhere, clogging up the closets and drawyers haha!

#2: Work in sections
I very much noticed that this tip is completely personal! I know there are people that dedicate a whole day or even a whole weekend to cleaning and barely even take a break to sleep (over-exaggerating to the fullest... or am I??) - but that is not the case for me! I get bored veeery easily (I swear my attention span is about half as long as other people's lol), so for me to really see through a deep spring clean I have to work in sections. Some rooms I will do in one go, my bathroom for example, other rooms, like my bedroom, I definitely have to take on one step after the other. I will for example to the overall cleaning of the room, like I would normally do every week. Then I'll come back and declutter and organize my closet and whiping it all down, maybe the day after I'll clean out and vacuum my drawyers... and so it goes on. I personally do not only think it is less tedious for me, but it is also way more effective, as I do not start to slack on being very precise with organizing and cleaning if I work in smaller sections and take breaks in between.

#3: Make it fun!
If you are anything like me, you'll read 'Make it fun!' and think: is this b*** kidding me? But actually, this is probably the most important point for someone that does not enjoy cleaning. Make the process fun, whether that is putting on loud and motivating music, watching a show on Netflix, listening to a Podcast, talking to a friend or your mum on the phone or even planning to reward yourself after sucessfully finishing your spring clean with ordering pizza for dinner (something I actually do all the time haha!)! The other day I actually made a huge bowl of sliced mango that I snacked on while decluttering my kitchen cabinets and a few weeks ago, I played the Spotify 'Fuego' playlist (if you know, you know) while cleaning my windows haha! But trust me, it works and time flies while you're getting your spring cleaning done!

Last but not least I wanted to share a little list of things that I always include in my spring cleaning action that are usually overlooked easily when cleaning your apartment:
  • Clean out your pantry and kitchen cabinets (sooo liberating!)
  • Clean out your fridge (so necessary!)
  • Go through things like your cutlery, plates, mugs and pots and pans and examine wether you have to replace anything
  • Empty out and whipe down all drawyers, cabinets, shelves etc.
  • Examine things like bedding, sheets, towels etc. and think about wether to replace anything
  • Deep clean your rugs and carpets!
  • Do the same for comforters and any blankets around your home.
  • Go through your cleaning supplies - anything you are missing or need to replace soon?
  • Think about putting some of your more seasonal clothes and accessories into storage until the next season.
  • Whip out some room scents or scented candles.
  • Put some fresh flowers on display!

Of course these are just some points that came to my mind while writing this post, but there's many more!

Feeling motivated to spring clean your home yet? How do you go about deep cleaning your space, any tips you can add to my list? Please feel free to leave them in the comments below!

How I Style White On White This Season

I adore a crisp white on white outfit and while it is a bit awkward to run around in a head to toe white outfit when it is grey and rainy outside, you best believe I will be rocking this trend as soon as true spring weather arives! However, I do feel that wearing white on white requires a bit more styling to really get the best out of the look.
Keep on reading to find out my top three tips on how to rock white on white this season!

Shop my look:

#1: Playing with textures
Here I am wearing a chiffon plain cami that fits a bit more loosely paired with white denim skinny jeans. I like this outfit as it is a super easy yet elegant daytime look and can be easily transformed for going out at night. I am also obsessed with the look of white knitted everything, a chunky knit sweater with ripped white jeans is everything in my opinion! I think it is quite important to wear different textures if you're going for a monochrome outfit to not make it look like a work uniform.

#2: Adding bold statements
I know that my accessories here are not super bold but I am wearing this very beautifully patterned twilly tied around my neck (can I just quickly say I looove the look of that and will be wearing it all spring and summer long!!) and I think that a white on white outfit is amazing to play around with bold statement accessories, because it almost acts like a blank canvas that goes with everything! Try adding a colorful handbag, wild printed shoes, a bright red lip or a chunky buckle belt and have fun with accessorizing your all white outfit!

#3: Break it up with neutrals
If you want to stay on the more neutral side you can always style an all white outfit with all the neutral shades you desire to make it more appropriate for everyday wear. On the day I wore this outfit I styled it with brown accessories, my white Adidas Superstars and a pretty beige light-weight trench, but I am planning on wearing it with black and brown sandals once the weither truly warms up, like in the image below. I also adore the look of an oversized beige cardigan over a white outfit and nude heels paired with white wide-leg pants!

What about you, are you rocking the white on white trend these upcoming seasons? If so, how are you styling it up?
Please leave it down below in the comments! :)

Weekly Sales

You can definitely tell that I was heavily shopping for cute summer dresses the past week with this episode of Weekly Sales haha!
But there were sooo many good deals out there that I had to share them all.

I hope you enjoy!

I ordered this yellow summer dress from ASOS right away - how cute is it??

I am living for light-wash denim lately and I think loser fits, like these mom jeans from Noisy May suit a spring wardrobe perfectly.

I am actively trying to get more into floral print this year, so I ordered this gorgeous tie waist dress by Closet London. I'll keep you updated on how it looks!

I've been toying with buying a cord skirt since last fall actually and finally pulled the trigger on this berry colored ASOS one.

I am building a little bit of a collection of white summer dresses at the moment haha, but I couldn't resist this cold shoulder one by Glamorous (and it's such a good deal as well!).

Love a good statement top and this striped one is definitely that! I love how structured it is.

Starting to get a little bit more back into denim skirt and I adore the hem line on this Blank Nyc one.

I absolutely fell in love with this flowy striped maxi dress, the slit is stunning and how good would it look on vacation!

This polka dotted cami dress by Glamorous is super cute and I will be getting so much wear out of it this summer!

What is in your shopping cart at the moment??

How To Style The Color Of The Season

According to many online style sources Burnt Orange is the It color of the season and you can definitely notice that by shopping your way around your favorite retailers right now! I am actively trying to incorporate more color into my wardrobe for the upcoming warmer seasons, so I drooled over all the vibrant orange jumpsuits, light-weight jackets and accessories on the rails right now. Eventually I picked up this gooorgeous burnt orange midi skirt from Mango. I love the color and the cute tortoise shell buttons (that you can actually un-do from the buttom up to show a little bit more leg!), but the most amazing thing about this clothing piece is the fabric: it is sooo soft and comfortable, flows amazingly and looks super luxe. The buttons are made out of sustainable bamboo, how cool is that?
Shop my look:
Here I styled the skirt simply with a white boxy-cut tee and I also paired a brown crossbody bag and brown ankle boots with it (yes, it is not yet quite warm where I live, so I had to pair this outfit with a trench and booties), but I can not wait to wear it with sliders or sandals and a cute straw bag for summer!

I already thought about a ton of other ways to style up this skirt - it really is super versatile - and how to wear the trend color burnt orange in general, and here is what I came up with:

Light-wash denim
In my opinion pairing burnt orange with a light shade of denim would really make the shade pop and would be super cute for spring! I want to try wearing a denim jacket and a knotted denim shirt with my new skirt.

This is definitely a more save option, because white goes with absolutely everything haha! However, if you want to first dip your toes into wearing burnt orange, pairing it with white makes it very wearable - and everybody loves a good white T-shirt or pair of sneakers, right?

Now, this one is a little bit more daring, but I can not wait to play around with a little leopard pattern mixed with this shade of orange! I consider leopard a neutral, as it goes with most colors, and the warm tone of burnt orange definitely compliments the print.

Some other burnt orange pieces I love:

Will you be trying burnt orange for the season ahead? What have you picked up so far? And how would you style this trend color? Please let me know in the comments!

The Edit: Under €50 Spring Shoes

As I mentioned in some of my previous posts, like my latest Weekly Sales and Currently Shopping blogposts, I am on a serious mission to revamp my wardrobe right now - and my shoe collection is no exception to that!
There have been a few shoes on my wishlist for the warmer months and as I have been browsing my favorite retailers, I found some really really cute ones!
I thought I'd share them here and I hope you enjoy!

I've been on a real mules kick this spring and to say I am obsessed with these ones by H&M would be an understatement - I absolutely love them! They are also only €20 so it is save to say I ordered them immediately! I also adore the look of white mules for the warmer months, like these ones by Office and I enjoy the casual look of these Asos ones (pssshh, they are only €13.80!!!).

To me, sliders are the ultimate shoe when it comes to everyday comfort and they pair with absolutely anything and everything you are wearing. These tan ones by Aldo are an amazing dupe for a widely known designer pair and I adore the unique look of these Miss Selfridge ones as they cover more of your foot. For a pop of color, I thought the red New Look sliders would look sooo cute with light wash denim and a simple white shirt.

Sandals are a very obvious choice, but to me this season it is all about block heel sandals preferably with a tie-around ankle strap - such a cute look for a spring night out! These grey ones by Public Desire are the vivid image of what I am imagening to be wearing on my feet this season and how fun are these leopard ones by Qupid? And, though not exactly block-heel haha, I am drooling over these Missguided gladiator sandals, so I had to add them!

I love espadrilles of all shapes, colors and forms - whether they are flat, strappy or higher than my aspirations. These snakeskin satin flats by PrettyLittlething are so on trend for the upcoming season (and also only €20!) and how unique do these MANEBí espadrilles look? Also, I can not get over these colorful tall ones by Glamorous - they would look amazing with a maxi dress!

And that concludes my under €50 spring shoe edit! What shoe styles are you going to be rocking this spring?

Thanks for stopping by!

Currently Shopping

Happy Monday!

I am currently in the midst of revamping my wardrobe, maybe the warmer weather is motivating me, or maybe I've been inspired by all of the cute spring clothes hitting the shelves of my fav retailers - I've been doing some serious shopping!

I found some amazing pieces, so I really wanted to share them here with you all.
I hope you enjoy!

I ordered this pair of white jeans by Bershka and I can not wait to style it. There is something about white denim that just scream spring to me! I liked the slight distressing and the not super tight fit about these.

Obsessed with the floral pattern on this €9 top!

I love a good jumpsuit, and this utility inspired one is perfect for the upcoming season.

I was on the hunt for a good pair of tan sandals and loved these for only €11! Also loving these suede loafers - they come in a pretty beige color as well.

One of my favorite trends for the upcoming warmer seasons is the button down design on tops and dresses! This white one by Free people is super adorable!

I like how lose the fit of this cami is yet the thin straps add something a bit more sexy - can't beat the price at only €13!

I bought this blouse by H&M the other day and I can not believe how good quality the fabric looks and feels! It definitely looks more expensive than what it is and is a nice top to have in your wardrobe for any occasion.

I also got this super cute midi skirt by Mango! The fabric again feels super luxe and very comfortable - I will be getting a ton of wear out of this piece.

What pieces are in your shopping cart at the moment?

Thanks for stopping by!

How To Get Back Into Reading Books

At the very end of last year a wrote a blogpost about How To Make New Years Resolutions And Actually Stick To Them and well, one of my personal resolutions for this year was to get back into reading! I wanted to achieve that by specifically reaching the goal of reading one book a month.

So what is my progress so far you ask? So far, so good: I've actually finished my third book this year about a week ago and have already started my fourth - yay!
Btw, I published a Want To Read List not too long ago, check it out for some reading inspo :)

I fell of the book-reading band wagon for a little bit, and I missed it everyday! I am very happy I managed to get back into reading again and wanted to share my tips that helped me pursue this goal right here.

I hope you get inspired!

This seems very very simple, but it is actually the most significant reason that prevents you from starting a book if you really think about it haha! I added to my goal of reading one book per month to order the next book before I actually finished the current one and that works great for me! You could also of course order a few books at a time and then always have a to-read section of books, I really like that option as well. So, wether you like to pick up books in your local store or download them on your e-reader - always keep the next read on hand that you can not wait to dive into!

2. Make Time For Reading
I found this one to be extremely difficult if reading has not been on your agenda for a little while, but actually setting time aside for picking up your book is crucial for making it part of your routine again (same goes for every other habit you would like to develop!). I experienced that "I'll read, when I have some down time" or "I'll read instead of watching TV from now on" did not cut it at all ha! Instead, I am now reading on my train ride to work everyday. Works like a charm for me, as I am continuousily picking up my book twice a day and, most importantly, I am now actually enjoying my commute AND looking forward to it (yes, read that again, I am looking forward to my commute now!!) -  I can not tell you how many times I actually almost missed my stop to get off the train haha!
Other times suitable for reading a chapter or two could be right before going to bed or even while
I think we can all set aside some time for reading a book if we really want to!

3. Find Your Genre
Now, I am all for always branching out and finding new topics to explore and be interested in, but in the end, we all have preferences. Me personally, I love my educational books and motivating self-development reads, however, I do enjoy my lighter, entertaining novels as well. I tried to get into reading thrillers, but that did not really work for me (I think I am too big of a wuss for that haha!). Especially if we are talking about getting back into really enjoying reading again, I think one should start with books that hit your particular interests (which can be an ever changing subject of course). You can always read excerpts of books online or in store to find out wether you would enjoy a particular book. Finding your genre will be of tremendous help to get you into reading again.

4. Get Inspired
In the past, I've often run into a situation where I wanted to order my next read, but I simply didn't know which one! Amazon is extremely overwhelming to me haha. Book stores are great because the often have sections of best sellers or new releases which can give you a guidelines! However, I find it easiest to just keep a list of books I want to read. I do follow some blogs that talk about good books from time to time and then save interesting book reviews and I also keep a list on my phone full of reading recommendations friends and co-workers mention to me. I very much recommend creating your own want-to-read list of some sort! That way you can always refer back to it whenever you lack inspiration of what to pick up next. Also, I know that there are plenty of book clubs online where you can share your book reviews and inspire others as well!

These are my personal and very simple tips that helped me a lot in getting back into reading.
What about you? Are you a big reader? Would you like to get back into reading again? Please feel free to leave your tips as well as any book recommendations in the comment section as well - I would love to read those!

Thanks for stopping by and have an amazing weekend!

xx Janine

As I have to dress smart casual for work I am always looking for office appropriate pants with a little trendy twist and these ones by ASOS Design are definitely it! What do you think??

This floral dress is soooo gorgeous, I am in love! Also, what an amazing deal, how can it be only €15??

These Pull&Bear pants really caught my eye, as they are very unique! I like how they look so so comfy yet super stylish at the same time.

Which item is your fav? Will you be getting anything?

xx Janine
